Water Treatment Systems 101: What Every Homeowner Needs to Know

Here’s what every homeowner needs to know about water treatment systems:

  • What water treatment systems do – Water treatment systems remove contaminants from your water. These contaminants can come from virtually anywhere, including wells, old pipes, local farms, or industrial factories.
  • Types of water treatment systems – There are four basic types of water treatment systems which provide specific purification needs:
    • Filtration systems – Filtration systems like activated carbon filters absorb contaminants into a carbon filter, improving the taste and quality of your drinking water. These are cost-effective ways to purify water from a single faucet or by using a filtration pitcher.
    • Reverse osmosis systems – Reverse osmosis is the process of sifting water through a semi-permeable membrane to filter out harmful microorganisms. They are usually installed under the sink for a single faucet.
    • Water softening systems – If you have hard water, meaning water that contains too much calcium and magnesium, water softeners can help reduce these minerals. However, water softeners do not purify water.
    • Ultraviolet (UV) purification systems – UV purifiers kill off bacteria and harmful microorganisms from the water, though they cannot remove more substantial contaminants like sediment. They are usually installed at the main water line to purify the whole home’s water supply.
  • Help is available for your water treatment needs – Ensuring you have a pure and safe water supply is a stressful burden to shoulder yourself. Our dedicated team is committed to helping our clients have confidence in their water supply with our expert guidance and solutions.
