pH Adjustment, Durham, NC

Adjusting the pH of your water is important for the health of your plumbing, plumbing fixtures, water heater, appliances and your family.

It might surprise you how many factors go into having delicious, clear, healthy drinking water at your home in Durham, North Carolina or the surrounding area. While some factors are regulated so you can have at least a modicum of faith that municipal water is safe, other aspects are not, yet can be just as important. As for well water, it can have just about anything in it, so it is important to have it tested and put a water treatment system in place. At Progressive Water Solutions LLC, we go beyond testing for the usual concerns, such as iron, sulphur, manganese, sediment, and chlorine/chloramine. We also determine if a pH adjustment is needed.

pH Adjustment in Durham, North Carolina

  • What is pH and Why is it Important to Test? While the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) monitors public water quality and does have a recommendation regarding pH, they do not regulate the pH of municipal water supplies. Not only will water needing a pH adjustment taste bad, but it can also cause damage to your appliances, water heater, and the plumbing in your home. Water with a pH below 6.8 is corrosive to all the metal it comes in contact with. It can literally eat holes in metal pipes, faucets and other plumbing fixtures, your water heater and appliances.
  • What Can Be Done About a pH Reading Outside the Acceptable Range? The key to getting your water’s pH within the acceptable range is to first know what the current pH is. Chemicals can be used to increase the pH of water, but we choose a chemical-free solution. An acid neutralizer is installed, which uses crushed granite to increase the pH of the water. If your pH is below a 6.0, then other media is added to the crushed granite in order to increase the pH further. An ideal pH is 7.0 – 7.5 after adjustment.
